“The Guild of Inquisitive Robots” - Connections Academy Signature Course Intro
The Signature Course was middle school social studies course focused on state history. Our goal was to showcase the animation and multimedia capabilities of our internal design team consisting of myself, 2 other animators, a team of instructional designers, and a small TechDev and AV studio. We created a Flash animated, interactive story revolving around a group of 5 extraterrestrial robots that arrive at the student’s state in order to learn how to develop a community of their own. Each robot represents a different topic of the state history course, culture, economics, geography, government, and history. We designed everything about their looks, voices, and mannerisms to embody each individual topic. Each robot got their own intro and outro video along with interactive exercises like matching, draw-a-line, and multiple-choice quizzes and a Google Earth state tour.
As one of only 3 animators I was integral to the overall art direction of this project. I participated in group script and storyboard development, designed characters, props, sets, and backgrounds, chose sound effects, music, and voice actors, animated, and wrote xml and ActionScript coding.
